Why travelers love it

“Family‑friendly all‑inclusive resort set on a calm bay west of La Romana”

Guests praise its relaxed, uncrowded setting with spacious rooms, a large pool with swim‑up bar, and family‑friendly atmosphere. Club Golden upgrades like extra amenities also receive consistent positive mention.

Food & drink

Strong

Buffet variety and à la carte quality are consistent highlights, with the Italian and beachside restaurants earning specific praise. Expect solid, plentiful food rather than gourmet fireworks.

Dining overview

There are six restaurants including buffet and multiple à la carte venues in varied cuisines (Italian, gourmet, seafood). Several bars around lobby, pool and beach.

Beach

Weak

The bay's soft sand and calm water are undercut by a nearby river that leaves the sea murky and brown, plus recurring jellyfish and floating sargassum. If a turquoise Caribbean swim is your priority, book elsewhere.

Editorial beach rating

The resort sits on a calm bay with a clean beach, shaded palapas, hammocks and a picturesque dock. Water is more murky and bay‑like versus the clearer sea of Punta Cana.

Pools

Standout

The pool is the true swimming venue here, huge, spotless, and lively enough to compensate when the sea is off-limits. An adults-only quiet pool gives couples a break from the family action.

Editorial pool rating

One large lake‑style pool splitting into sections including a kiddy pool and swim‑up bar; typically uncrowded and relaxing

What’s included

Mixed

Solid mid-range value when you focus on food, pool, and service, and less so if you were sold a five-star fantasy. Rooms are dated in spots and the property feels closer to 3.5 stars than 4.5.

Package inclusions and upgrade access have not been collected yet. Confirm them for your room and dates when booking.

Amenities & activities

Couples

Good fit

A calm, romantic backdrop that couples repeatedly single out, from Christmas stays to Valentine's beach dinners. The adults-only side and quiet pool add real grown-up space within a family resort.

Families

Good fit

Purpose-built for multigenerational trips, with kids' pools, single-level layout for strollers, and food options for little ones. The kids' club exists but needs better communication and programming.

Peace & Quiet

Standout

This is a relaxing resort rather than a party scene, with lush grounds and a mellow pace that suits readers and nappers. A few late-night neighbors and repetitive entertainment are the only real disturbances.

On‑site spa, fitness center, mini‑club, tennis courts, golf course access, entertainment theater, disco, shops, water sports (non‑motorized), and evening shows

What past guests say

“We travelled to La Romana from Punta Cana airport (just over an hour transfer). We were lucky that we had almost a private transfer as the other couple were travelling to the adults only part of the same resort. Bahia Principe has an app which lets you check in before arrival, i would recommend downloading it so when we arrived it was a very easy check in. We had a concierge buggy that took us to our room. We were very blessed as we had a beautiful beach view from our room. The room was a...”

“I really enjoyed everything, but I especially want to highlight the professionalism and friendliness of the service, particularly Luis Ángel and Wayton.”

“There were more locals than tourists, which I really liked since it meant less smoking around the resort. The daytime entertainment was quite repetitive, but the nighttime shows and activities were much better. Unfortunately, the room condition was disappointing. Water was leaking from the AC, and the water pressure in the bathroom was very weak. The main buffet near the entrance was decent. I didn’t experience any stomach issues, and the menu changed regularly, which was a plus. Overall,...”

What to Know

Come for the resort itself, not the sea, and steer clear of the Privilege Club timeshare pitch and the in-house Jumbo excursions. The airport transfer is around 90 minutes and the property is isolated from any town.

Check‑in begins 3pm. Children 4‑12 accepted in mini‑club; quieter resort after 11pm as disco winds down. Taxi from LRM ~25‑30 minutes; pricey from Santo Domingo airport.
