Why travelers love it

“Casual all‑inclusive resort on Varadero’s best beach with family focus”

Guests consistently praise the beachfront location and proximity to downtown Varadero. Families value the multiple pools and children’s club. Many reviews highlight good value for the range of amenities.

Food & drink

Mixed

Buffet basics get the job done with warm service, but variety is thin and Cuba's supply shortages show up on the plate. Expect repetitive spreads and mornings where breakfast is little more than ham, cheese, and bread.

Dining overview

Buffet dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner plus multiple à la carte restaurants including Spanish, Italian, Mexican, Asian and local cuisine; bars pool‑side and in lobby

Beach

Standout

The beach is the reason to book: powder-white Varadero sand, direct first-line access, and stunning water that even skeptics rave about. It consistently outperforms everything else on property.

Editorial beach rating

Long white‑sand Varadero beach with shallow, swimmable water and direct beach‑front location

Pools

Strong

The main pool draws steady praise for cleanliness and a lively cocktail scene, though a few recent stays flagged cloudy water and noise. Neighboring Barceló Solymar's pool is often cited as the cleaner backup.

Editorial pool rating

Three outdoor pools plus a children’s pool and two whirlpools; pool areas have bars, sunloungers and daytime/nighttime entertainment

Rooms & suites

358 rooms

Bright, colorful family rooms including Superior, Superior Ocean‑View, and Suites—some with living areas; rooms include air conditioning, safe, minibar

What’s included

Mixed

Priced as budget Cuba and it shows: you're paying for the beach and the staff, not the hardware. Fine value if expectations are calibrated, a letdown if you're expecting a true four-star.

Package inclusions and upgrade access have not been collected yet. Confirm them for your room and dates when booking.

Amenities & activities

Couples

Stretch

Fine for a low-key, budget honeymoon on a knockout beach, but tired rooms and a family-heavy vibe make it a hard sell for romance seekers. One honeymoon report was positive; other couples flagged noise and room condition.

Families

Good fit

This is where the resort shines: multi-generational Cuban and international families return year after year for the beach, pool, and evening shows. Expect a warm, homey atmosphere rather than slick kids-club programming.

Peace & Quiet

Mixed

Peace is hit or miss: some find it cozy and calm, others are driven off by guests blasting Bluetooth speakers around the pools with no staff intervention. Not the retreat for light sleepers or those craving true tranquility.

Spa with sauna and massages, beauty salon, gym, tennis and multisport courts, games room, children’s playground, non‑motorized water sports, nightly entertainment

What past guests say

“This all-inclusive resort is very large, but it has its drawbacks as well as its advantages. For example, the rooms are dated, but the beds aren't stained or infested with bedbugs. The beach is beautiful and stunning. The pool is a bit dirty, but it's okay. Next door, you have the Barceló Solymar with a pool that has clear water. The Occidental Arenas Blancas is a very good choice.”

“We paid extra for an “ocean view” room and what we got is basically not an ocean view at all (see photos). You can barely see anything—mostly roofs and resort structures. That already felt misleading. The room itself was nasty. There was mold, dirty vents, stained ceilings, and obvious water damage. The place looks old, neglected, and poorly maintained. It did not feel clean or taken care of. The staff were actually okay, so this isn’t about blaming them—but the hotel is clearly understaffed and”

“Dated rooms, no service. Good wi-fi but food was so so. No hot water for showers”

“Horrible, stinky place , they got their hands out non stop for money , we stayed 10 days and didn't get clean towels once . Place smells really bad like mold and the food was like a cow trough.”

What you should know

What to Know

This is Cuba on a shoestring: come for the beach, forgive the hardware, and pack for shortages. Rooms are dated with recurring maintenance issues, and paid upgrades don't always deliver what's promised.
