Food & drink
StrongFood is a genuine strength here, widely called the best in Cuba with an evening carvery, live pancake and omelet stations, and à la carte venues that actually deliver. Expect abundance rather than gourmet finesse, and note that some off-season stays have seen outlets close early.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Evening carvery praised repeatedly
- Pancake, omelet and pasta stations at buffet
- À la cartes with live music
- Considered top-tier food for Cuba
Heads up
- Off-season closures of pool restaurant and beach kiosk
- À la carte allowance capped and not clearly communicated
- Some basic ingredients you may want to bring yourself
Dining overview
Includes a buffet restaurant (Flamboyan), gourmet and local à la carte venues (Palma Real, Las Adelfas), plus several bars including lobby, pool, beach and piano venues
Beach
StandoutThe beach is the headline: soft, clean, easy to snag a palapa, with a beach grill and bar steps away. Water can get wavy on windy days, which most guests treat as a plus.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Soft sand and clear water
- Beach bar and snack grill close by
- Palapas available if you go early
- Nightlife right on the sand
Heads up
- Beach kiosk closed some days in low season
- Waves when windy may not suit weak swimmers
Located in an eco-reserve adjacent to the Marina Gaviota, with access to a white-sand beach via a pedestrian bridge.
Pools
StrongThe main pool is clean, well-serviced, and hosts foam parties and daytime animation. It is a solid resort pool rather than a design feature.
medium confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Clean, well-maintained pool
- Attentive pool-bar staff
- Foam parties and pool games
- Pool restaurant when in season
Heads up
- Pool restaurant closed at times off-season
- No separate adult-only pool area
One main outdoor pool plus a separate kid pool and Jacuzzi; poolside bar available
Rooms & suites
395 roomsAll rooms feature a balcony or terrace, air conditioning, satellite TV, a minibar, a safe, and a coffee maker. Suites add a separate living room and sea views.

What’s included
StrongFor Cuba pricing, this is one of the strongest value plays on the island, especially if you upgrade to Select for premium drinks, dedicated breakfast and a stocked minibar. A handful of guests felt service and food quality slipped versus prior visits.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Fair price for what you get
- Select upgrade widely called worth it
- Consistently rated best-in-Cuba by repeat visitors
- No power outages reported during stays
Heads up
- Extra fee for early check-in not disclosed upfront
- Some returning guests noticed a dip in service and variety
- Select room requests not always honored

“Amazing stay at Blau Varadero – unforgettable experience! We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Blau Varadero, and honestly, everything exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and taken care of, but what really made this resort stand out was the atmosphere, the animation team, the beautiful location, and the food. First, the animation team deserves a huge shout-out. They are energetic, friendly, funny, and truly passionate about what they do. They work all day lo”

“We had a great experience at this resort and felt very comfortable visiting right now. There were no power outages during our stay, which was a big plus. The staff were excellent—friendly, hardworking, and always welcoming. The food was decent with good variety, and the bars offered a solid selection of alcohol. I highly recommend upgrading to Select if possible—the extra perks are well worth the small additional cost and definitely enhance the overall experience. Would absolutely recommend this”

“I mean, where to start… i'll go short, german engineering, 5 stars, from my room at the sixth floor to the beach, maybe 3 min? Same for the tourbus, everything is close. The animacion song got to me, i want to buy the vinyl version :) There are some little competitions for either rum bottle or massages, but be careful, if you win a lot in a row, they might be trying to empty your energy tank so you be more quiet at bingo :) all in a good spirit. Lassaro is going around trying to remember the nam”

“The Blau is on the older side as far as hotels go un Varadero, 20 years this year. But it is surprisingly well maintained, clean and very pleasant. The beach is absolutely fantastic, the pool is perfect, and the food! There is abundance at the Blau. If you want to chill at the lobby bar, it's fine, but the nightlife at the beach bar, dear God. I partied with youngsters from all around the world 5 nights in a row, it was superb! But it's not the point, the staff is. I dare you to find a resort wh”

“We stayed for a week and had a wonderful time. The staff were super friendly, service was great. Food was good, at all meals we found many options we enjoyed. The fish was delicious. Lots of activities for entertainment including: archery, beach volleyball, water polo, aqua aerobics, yoga and so much more. The bar had many options including various liquors, wine, beer etc. The lobby bar and chill out bar had tomato juice and the staff made a great Bloody Mary! The beach was beautiful, the weathe”
