Why travelers love it

“Budget beachfront resort with family friendly vibe near Puerto Vallarta’s Hotel Zone”

Guests often highlight its convenient walking access to town, lively family atmosphere, and value pricing.

Food & drink

Weak

Food is the resort's weakest link: buffet ranges from edible to horrible, with birds picking at unattended plates and skeletal offerings at off-hours. Expect dry pasta and cooked carrots if you arrive between meal services.

Dining overview

Three restaurants: buffet‑style main venue serving all meals, an Italian a‑la‑carte restaurant open some nights, and a snack bar on the path to the beach; two bars including a lobby bar and a poolside bar.

Beach

Weak

Calling this a beach is generous: a small strip of tiny rocks that hurt bare feet, backed by a lagoon where crocodiles sun themselves. Chairs and access are limited, and street vendors work the sand heavily.

Editorial beach rating

Fronts a long, wide beach but the resort’s beach area is small and rocky, with muddy river water seeping into the ocean and only a few chairs; overshadowed by an abandoned hotel structure nearby.

Pools

Weak

The pool is the resort's noise engine, blaring music from mid-morning to early evening, and it's the reason most sleep complaints exist. Don't expect a relaxing lounger day.

Editorial pool rating

Two outdoor pools with activity programming beside each other; one geared to games like volleyball and the other smaller, both popular with kids.

Rooms & suites

Two hundred seven rooms including standard rooms and family suites with kitchens and living areas in the suites.

Room details here are AI-assisted, compiled from the resort's own website and public sources. Categories and names change often — confirm the exact room when you book.

What’s included

Weak

Even at value pricing, the experience underdelivers: 20-year-old furniture, moldy showers, intermittent hot water, and only one bottle of drinking water per guest for a whole week on an 'all inclusive' plan. A minority feel the price sets fair expectations; most feel misrepresented.

Package inclusions and upgrade access have not been collected yet. Confirm them for your room and dates when booking.

Amenities & activities

Couples

Not a fit

Not a romantic pick: dated rooms, loud pool music from morning to evening, and unwelcoming front-desk service undermine any couple's getaway. Multiple couples reportedly checked out and found other hotels on arrival.

Families

Not a fit

A frequent stop for family excursion groups, with plenty of kids around and an entertaining evening show, but crocodiles sunning on the beach and broken furniture with exposed nails are serious safety flags for young children.

Peace & Quiet

Weak

Peace is not on the menu. Pool speakers blast from 10am to 7pm, and even guests who request quiet rooms are placed directly above the pool deck.

Includes kids club, snack bar, gift shop, nightly entertainment in main buffet restaurant, but no spa or fitness room; Wi‑Fi only reliable in common areas.

What past guests say

“If you have the chance, go somewhere else. Terrible service. The waiters barely show up when you finish your meal. The drinks are awful, and they limit you to one thermos. The food has very little variety and questionable quality.”

“TERRIBLE SERVICE, I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. Honestly, this hotel is nowhere near what its advertising promises. The experience was very disappointing and left much to be desired. To begin with, there were bed bugs in the bed! This is completely unacceptable in a hotel. The air conditioning didn't work, the soda machine was also broken, and the drinks were extremely watered down. Furthermore, the food was awful, the waiters were rude, and it was clear they were understaffed. To top it all off,...”

What to Know

Go in with clear eyes: check-in is 3pm but checkout is noon (you lose a day), reservations at Los Helechos fill by 8am, and management access requires a 24-hour appointment. Bartender Megal and Manager Victor are the standout staff bright spots.
