Why travelers love it
Travelers appreciate the unbeatable walk‑to‑town location and beach access just across the street. The budget pricing and on‑site entertainment for adults and kids also earn frequent praise.
Food & drink
WeakExpect a bare-bones breakfast and little else on property. A single celebratory event at the Ranchon aside, the food story here is thin variety, confusion over where breakfast is even served, and a kitchen that underdelivers.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Ranchon event drew genuine praise
- Breakfast included in most rates
- Plenty of paid restaurants nearby in Santa Marta
Heads up
- Very simple, low-variety breakfast
- Conflicting directions to breakfast location
- Main restaurant offers little
Dining overview
Includes a buffet restaurant, an Italian à la carte venue, snack bar, plus beachside and pool bars; food quality and variety reported as inconsistent.
Beach
StrongThe beach is the single redeeming feature: soft sand, clear blue water, and easy access to Santa Marta on foot. If you can tolerate the hotel, Varadero's shoreline still delivers.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Soft, amazing sands
- Crystal blue water
- Warm 28°C sea temperatures
- Easy walk to Santa Marta
Public beach with white sand just across the street, loungers and palapa umbrellas supplied, opportunities to mingle with locals and use non‑motorized water sports.
Pools
WeakThere is effectively no pool. It has been empty and under long-running renovation for years, and bookings do not warn you in advance.
high confidence
Heads up
- Pool empty, reportedly for 4+ years
- Ongoing renovation with no timeline
- Not disclosed at booking
One main pool with adjacent kiddy pool; dated loungers and surroundings; currently under refurbishment according to official site.
Rooms & suites
292 roomsBasic standard rooms with air conditioning, satellite TV, safe, balcony in many units; décor is dated and furniture worn; some maintenance and housekeeping complaints.
Room details here are AI-assisted, compiled from the resort's own website and public sources. Categories and names change often — confirm the exact room when you book.
What’s included
WeakCheap for a reason. Even at Cuba's price point, the missing pool, cold showers, broken elevator, and unresolved maintenance requests make this feel like a gamble rather than a bargain.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Low nightly rate
- Beachfront Varadero location for the price
Heads up
- Facilities in visible disrepair
- Broken minibars and boilers go unfixed
- Staff response to problems is minimal
Package inclusions and upgrade access have not been collected yet. Confirm them for your room and dates when booking.
Amenities & activities
Couples
Not a fitNothing romantic to lean on here: tired rooms, cold water, and safety concerns make it a poor pick for a couples getaway. Varadero's beach is the only thing working in its favor.
medium confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Large rooms
- Beach walks and nearby dance club (Lunar Eclipse)
Heads up
- Dated, neglected structure
- No romance infrastructure or ambience
- Maintenance issues undercut any getaway feel
Families
Not a fitBroken elevators in an eight-story tower, a pool that has been dry for years, and a reported balcony theft make this a hard no for families. Kids will find nothing designed for them.
medium confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Friendly beach with soft sand nearby
Heads up
- No kids club or kids amenities
- Broken elevator with no luggage help
- Reported in-room theft via balcony
- Pool unusable
Peace & Quiet
MixedThe property itself is subdued to the point of feeling neglected, but a dance club in the tower and Santa Marta nightlife are steps away. Quiet by default, not by design.
low confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Low-key on-property atmosphere
- Easy escape to town when you want energy
Heads up
- Lunar Eclipse club in the tower can carry sound
- Quiet stems from disrepair, not curation
On‑site features: à la carte and buffet dining, several bars, non‑motorized water sports, massage treatment room, beauty salon, internet for fee, tour desk, gift shop, medical station and nightly entertainment.

What past guests say
“The hotel is absolutely disgusting in every way.”
★☆☆☆☆
“Terrible customer service. I've been trying to cancel for the last 5 days and haven't been able to. I've sent several emails and no one answers or offers to help me.”
★☆☆☆☆
“I absolutely do not recommend this place. A terrible experience. The set breakfast offered no variety. The pool was under maintenance, and they didn't mention this when you made the reservation. We asked the staff to replace the minibar because it was broken, and three days passed without them doing anything.”
★☆☆☆☆
“I had my money and passport stolen at this hotel. The thieves entered through the balcony. Take your belongings with you when you leave. The staff did nothing. Ultimately, they blamed me for the loss. They refused to call the police.

Regarding breakfast, they first send you to a cafe near the beach, but they say breakfast is at the hotel. You come back, ask again, and they say you're mistaken and breakfast is on the 12th floor. This happened a couple of times.”
★☆☆☆☆
“Cuba 2025 amazed with heavenly weather: 28° water and 30° air!”
