Why travelers love it

“Beachfront all‑inclusive resort on Arena Gorda beach with spa, water park access, and multiple pools for all ages”

Guests consistently praise the clean expansive beach, variety of pools including swim‑up bar and water park, and inclusive mix of dining options

Food & drink

Strong

À la carte venues shine with no reservations required, and the buffet offers real breadth including a crepe station and standout steakhouse. Consistency wavers: buffet hygiene, meat quality, and occasional stomach troubles surface across enough stays to note.

Dining overview

Buffet, food court, and several a‑la‑carte restaurants including steakhouse, Asian/Zen, Italian, Mexican, American

Beach

Standout

Arena Gorda delivers a wide, well-groomed beach with only minor summer seaweed and daily cleanup. Upkeep of the resort's beach chair zone lags, however, with trash and diapers sometimes left too long.

Pools

Standout

Multiple pools cover every mood: a party pool with swim-up bar, a calm adults-only pool, an Elite Club plunge pool, and an on-property water park. Loungers are plentiful with no dawn chair-race required.

Editorial pool rating

Multiple pools including family, sports, adults‑only, party pool with swim‑up bar, plus villa pools with swim‑up bar and whirlpool

Rooms & suites

600 rooms

Over 600 rooms across main building and 12 exclusive villas; all include free WiFi, mini‑bar beverage dispenser, coffee maker, 24‑hour room service, balcony or terrace

What’s included

Standout

For a fully renovated Punta Cana all-inclusive with water park, multiple pools, and premium in-room liquor dispensers, this lands as one of the strongest value plays in the RIU chain. The Elite Club upgrade is widely called worth every penny.

Package inclusions and upgrade access have not been collected yet. Confirm them for your room and dates when booking.

Amenities & activities

Couples

Stretch

An adults-only pool and Elite Club upgrades give couples a quieter corner within a busy family property, and anniversary stays land well. Honeymooners hoping for white-glove romance may find service inconsistent, especially outside the Elite section.

Families

Ideal

Multi-generational trips thrive here: on-site water park, roomy Family and Friends suites, and pools for every age group. Teens are the one gap, with activities skewing toward younger kids or adults.

Peace & Quiet

Strong

You get to choose your volume: a lively party pool and RIU Neon events on one end, a serene adults-only pool and shaded beach nooks on the other. Smoking throughout public areas is the main disruptor for anyone chasing calm.

All‑inclusive 24‑hour with water park access (Splash Water World), Renova Spa, gym and steam bath, kids club, boutique, conference rooms, plus access to Caribbean Street shops and Pacha disco

“I enjoyed my stay. The staff was friendly, the food was good & the entertainment was lively. The only real issue was with the transportation through Destination Services. Our flight landed much earlier than the others booked on the van so we had to wait 30-45 mins before we could leave the airport. On the way home, the driver was 30 mins late & we had no way of reaching them. It’s included in the stay at Riu properties, but the delay isn’t worth it. Next time, booking our own transfers.”

“I’ll start by prefacing that my fiancée and I stayed at the Hotel Riu Palace Kukulkan in Cancun about 6 months before this trip and had pretty high standards from that stay. First off, the rooms are pretty humid (not the hotels fault, that’s just DR weather), so it felt sticky in the rooms and on the bed and of course, our ceiling fan was squeaking so we couldn’t use it. Secondly, the buffet food was the best out of all the restaurant choices and they give a large variety throughout the week. ED”

“Loved it here, entertainment was good, good selection of food, alcohol drinks were good, cocktails were average, but the choice of spirits was good. The staff were amazing. Rooms were lovely and clean. The only downside was there were no designated smoking places. So had to move away from smokers often as the smoke was choking for a non smoker. (Must have been high season the time we were for smokers). Also I would make sure you get the room you pay for in the brochure as hotel and TUI do not se”

“I am a non smoker and was very disappointed there was no Non-smoking area near the pool. Also, in the entertainment area smoke kept bowing inside the theater. I didn't enjoy much entertainment related to this bad smell. Yes the buffet had many choices with varied choices. If you asked a cook/chef for anything, it was made special for you. The crepe station at supper was a wonderful addition for dessert option! Sunrise on the beach is SPECTACULAR! If you love to photograph sunrises- this resort i”

“This was the 2nd visit to this resort in 2 years! We chose this resort because our visit in Jan 2024 was so good and we knew what we were getting. This year did not disappoint! The resort was clean, from the pools, to the rooms, to the eating areas and the entertainment area! The shows were phenomenal each night and I even won a Riu hat playing Michael Jackson trivia! The gym was clean and had a good array of equipment to make it easy for me to maintain my workout. The wellness area was clean an”

Rosie answers from this resort’s guest reviews and our research — with quotes.

Know before you book

  • Inconsistent food quality at specialty a‑la‑carte restaurants
  • Reported cleanliness and housekeeping issues
  • Some buffet dishes repetitive or underwhelming
  • Chair area littered with cups and diapers at times

What you should know

What to Know

Download the RIU app before arrival: on-property signage and check-in info are thin, and navigating the sprawling grounds without a map is confusing. Expect long check-in waits at peak, tip in small bills, and consider the Elite Club for faster arrival and a private lounge.

PUJ nearest airport

Good to know

  • No palapas on beach, only natural shade under palms
  • Food court added during recent renovation
  • Elite Club villas have own pools and swim‑up bar
