Why travelers love it
“All-inclusive beachfront resort in lively Maho Village with casino, beach access, and pools”
Guests appreciate the energetic location steps from Maho Beach and the airport, the large pool with swim‑up bar, family‑friendly setup with kids club, and extensive dining and nightlife options
Food & drink
MixedBuffet holds its own and the Mexican and Asian outlets earn repeat visits, but slow service, rigid meal windows, and a weak Italian venue drag the experience down. The paid upgrade to Jax steakhouse is where the real standout meal lives.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Mexican and Asian à la carte are favorites
- Buffet has enough variety day to day
- Jax steakhouse (upcharge) is exceptional
- Breakfast omelets and beans praised
Heads up
- Dinner service routinely 45+ minutes
- Italian restaurant underwhelms
- Narrow restaurant hours with midday gaps
- Isolated complaints of bugs and food quality
Dining overview
Five restaurants including buffet (Ocean Terrace), Italian (The Point), Caribbean grill (Palms Grill), pizzeria (Pizzeria Napoli), and pub (Ascot Pub), plus multiple bars throughout property
Beach
StrongMaho Beach itself is a highlight: turquoise, clear, coral-free water with soft waves and the famous plane-spotting overhead. The letdown is on-sand service, which is essentially non-existent.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Clear turquoise water, no coral underfoot
- Free chairs and umbrellas
- Iconic plane landings right overhead
- Easy walk from rooms to sand
Heads up
- No drink service on the beach
- Beach area is compact, not sprawling
- Occasional crowding from day visitors
Small, busy beach right by the airport ideal for watching plane landings; not quiet but convenient for airport access
Pools
StrongMultiple pools including three adults-only options plus a swim-up bar give real variety, and loungers are easy to grab. Service pace and an early 6pm closing at times pull the experience back to average.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Three adults-only pools to rotate through
- Pools cleaned daily
- No towel cards, grab and go
- Loungers almost always available
Heads up
- Slow drink service at pool bars
- Kiddie pool feels dated and small
- Reports of pool closing as early as 6pm
Lagoon‑style Oasis pool with swim‑up bar, waterfalls, plus a separate children’s pool and adult‑only Ultimate Club pool upstairs

What’s included
MixedMarketed as luxury but priced and delivered more like a mid-tier all-inclusive, so temper expectations and the value works out. Pay the premium for Ocean Point adults-only and the math improves noticeably.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Adults-only upgrade delivers real payoff
- Unlimited drinks any hour
- Location in Maho Village saves on excursions
- Solid rooms with strong views
Heads up
- Falls short of 'luxury' billing
- Steakhouse and taxis are extra cash
- Service inconsistency undercuts price point
Package inclusions and upgrade access have not been collected yet. Confirm them for your room and dates when booking.
Amenities & activities
Couples
Good fitCouples who upgrade to the adults-only Ocean Point side find a genuinely relaxed, romantic pocket with better pools, better liquor, and a calmer vibe. Stay on the main Maho side and the romance dilutes fast.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Adults-only Ocean Point wing is worth the upgrade
- Three adult pools plus 9th/10th floor adult lounge
- Turquoise water and dreamy beach views
- Honeymoon and bachelorette groups report great stays
Heads up
- Main resort side feels busy and family-heavy
- Entertainment is lackluster for date nights
Families
Good fitA workable family pick with a kids club, toddler pool, mini golf, and easy walk-out to Maho Village shops and restaurants. Just know the kiddie pool skews small and tired, and slow dining can test younger kids' patience.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Kids club with slide, playground, trampoline
- Cotton candy, face painting, movie nights
- Mini golf staff genuinely engage kids
- Walkable village with shops and grocery
Heads up
- Kiddie pool small and unappealing to some
- Rigid restaurant hours frustrate hungry kids
- Slow service tough with little ones
Peace & Quiet
StrongThe Ocean Point adults-only side delivers a genuinely calm, relaxed atmosphere, and the beach itself is peaceful. The main resort and Maho Village outside can get loud with crowds, planes, and nightlife spillover.
medium confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Ocean Point side reads as a quiet retreat
- Beach and pools rarely feel packed
- Easy to find a lounger without pre-dawn runs
Heads up
- Plane noise from adjacent airport
- Maho Village nightlife audible from some rooms
- Occasional crowded pool days
Resort includes full‑service Serenity Spa, fitness center, kids club and aqua park, casino across the street, wedding gazebo, tennis courts, tour desk, and nightlife entertainment

What past guests say
“Unacceptable and deplorable service! After paying €400 for my room with my daughter! Avoid at all costs!!”
★☆☆☆☆
“Every year since 2024, we have spent a week at the Sonesta, either in August or October. I have highly recommended the Sonesta to many of my friends. However, for the first time, I was extremely disappointed with both the service and the room. In fact, it wasn't until the end of our stay that I even learned we were part of the "Sonesta Travel Pass" program. Usually, we are always placed on the fourth floor, but this time we were on the second—and we hated it. Upon arrival, there was a foul...”

“The resort was great all inclusive we stayed on the adult side and was able to visit both side.. Customer service excellent food and staff 5 stars!!”
★★★★★
“October 2026 The resort is very beautiful and clean, with a lovely beach. Less appealing... beach chairs are only available from 10 am. The staff is unfriendly and rude. No service whatsoever, neither at the buffet nor à la carte. The food quality is inconsistent and not very good. Not to mention the shows... no entertainment whatsoever... I couldn't finish my meal. And the airport... oh my god, Cuba is better.”
★☆☆☆☆
“Honestly, a total disappointment. I'd always heard this hotel was the best in Saint Martin, but honestly, it doesn't live up to its reputation. I'm only on my third day of my seven-day stay, and I'm already fed up. There's mold in the rooms, and the daily housekeeping is inadequate. The floors are never cleaned. They only make the beds and change the towels. As for the all-inclusive package, the drinks are rushed; nothing is elaborate. The cocktails are just a mix of syrup and squeezed juice...”
