Why travelers love it

“Intimate beachfront boutique section with private beach access and access to a larger resort next door”

Guests consistently praise the intimate size, private beach and VIP feel of the Cayena area, and the ability to use sister‑resort facilities. Many highlight quiet ambiance and sea‑view rooms.

Food & drink

Mixed

Cayena guests get a quieter dedicated restaurant for breakfast and lunch, with El Cano and the sit-down venues drawing genuine praise, though dinner shifts to the crowded shared buffet with the neighboring Arena Blanca.

Dining overview

Small seaside restaurant reserved for Cayena guests for breakfast and lunch; guests can eat dinner at multiple venues at Arena Blanca next door without reservations.

Beach

Weak

The original long beach has largely eroded away, leaving a small lounger area and forcing guests to walk to the neighboring hotel's beach for real sand and swimming.

Private VIP beach area with padded loungers, palapas and hammocks; beach is intimate and quieter than mega‑resorts but erosion and seaweed are recurring concerns.

Pools

Mixed

Pools are clean and pleasant in the Cayena section, though upkeep of cushions and parasols slips and the kids pool has been out of service.

Editorial pool rating

One small pool exclusive to Cayena guests and a second larger and livelier pool at the sister property; night lighting creates romantic ambiance.

Rooms & suites

47 rooms

47 sea‑view rooms, all with balconies (some with jetted tubs and stocked mini‑fridges); interiors are dated and need updating, and maintenance issues like hot water outages are reported.

Room details here are AI-assisted, compiled from the resort's own website and public sources. Categories and names change often — confirm the exact room when you book.

What’s included

Weak

You pay a meaningful premium over the adjacent Arena Blanca for a hedge-thin separation, older rooms, and access to the same restaurants, which many find hard to justify at full price.

Package inclusions and upgrade access have not been collected yet. Confirm them for your room and dates when booking.

Amenities & activities

Couples

Stretch

The small 47-room VIP section with direct sea views and a quiet vibe suits low-key couples, but tired rooms and inconsistent service undercut any romance premium.

Families

Not a fit

Families are the wrong fit here: the eroded beach is hard to navigate with kids, the kids pool was closed for construction, and the kids club is loosely supervised.

Peace & Quiet

Strong

The Cayena section is deliberately small and calm, with a private breakfast and lunch space that keeps the crowds of the larger resort at bay.

Access to sister‑property facilities including multiple restaurants, bars, entertainment, spa, fitness, disco, casino; on‑site boutique spa, fitness center, non‑motorized water sports, tennis courts.

“I've come several times in recent years. The food and the overall atmosphere are good. But the entertainment team needs a refresh: they've been using the same choreography, the same host, and the same music for years. The MC always does the same thing. The evening shows should be different each day, but they've been doing the same thing in the same order for years. After several visits, you know it by heart. And a word about the beer: the draft beer they serve is advertised as Presidente,...”

“The beach is completely eroded compared to advertising photos from Westjet Vacations and Vik Hotels Group. Rooms are dated and in desperate need of refurbishment. Water pressure and hot water was a constant issue for us. We were moved to an "upgraded" room due to deficiencies and we found out from another guest that she had just been moved from the upgraded room as the a/c did not work. We reported the non-functioning air conditioning and that our door did not latch or close exposing our...”

“Our friend Jairo always taking care of us. We going again next month. What I love about this place is that you have your private restaurant, pool and your own bar tender and chefs there.”All inclusive” also you can use the other pools and all the other restaurants, but no one that is not staying there can eat or pass to your private area”

Know before you book

Not for:beach-first tripsNot for:familiesNot for:budget-focused travelers
  • Rooms dated with maintenance issues like hot water outages
  • Beach erosion and seaweed limiting direct ocean access
  • Inconsistent service outside Cayeña area
  • Food variety limited and wine selection basic

What you should know

What to Know

Cayena is really the VIP wing of Arena Blanca, not a standalone hotel, so expect a tiny footprint, a lost beach, and shared dinner venues despite the premium price.

Request ocean‑view room when booking; be aware some rooms may not have ocean views despite being sold as such. Beach gets towels reserved early; erosion limits direct ocean access.
